Sixth Form Life

WE PERSONALISE AND TAILOR OUR APPROACH

Students benefit from the excellent pastoral care offered at St Julie’s High School. The Sixth Form team specialises in the needs of post-16 students and, as well as supporting students through their time in Sixth Form, offers individual and personalised guidance on the next phase of their lives. Pupil and Parent Voice is overwhelmingly positive and we pride ourselves in the positive relationships we have forged with our students. The PSHE programme in Sixth Form is geared towards the needs of our young adults, covering issues such as developing study skills, preparation for university or employment; citizenship and diversity; organisational skills and time management along with building financial awareness, sexual consent and staying safe..

Bursary application form – I’ve emailed Jackie for an electronic version – I’ve got it saved

1804 Society – please use the existing info we have. Ruth is also going to add to this with the new 1804 group so they can produce a small pen paragraph about their roles

Mental Health Ambassadors – I need Ruth or the girls to produce a short blurb on this. If possible, can we get a photo of them all together maybe sitting round a table and looking as if they’re deep in discussion!!

Under this, could you take some pics or even use some of results days, Leavers’ Breakfasts, Fancy Dress, kids working in class (I’ll stage them if I need to) some from the BTEC Music or school shows?

This educational and commemorative project offers post-16 students the opportunity to learn about the Holocaust and consider its relevance for today. Participants join others from across the country as they embark on an educational journey in which they will:

  • Explore this challenging history, led by experts in the history of the Holocaust
  • Hear directly from Holocaust survivors, who will share their personal experiences, including a live survivor testimony and Q&A
  • Visit the most notorious site of the Holocaust, the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum; and considering the relevance of this history in today’s world.

Students will end the course with their Next Steps, an opportunity for them to share what they have learnt and experienced with their school and wider community.

Cyber Champs

This Merseyside Police initiative promotes digital literacy and e-safety. A cohort of our Sixth Form students were recruited and trained as Cyber Champions to help spread the word about internet crime.  As well as helping peers and working with younger pupils, the role gives the Cyber Champions a sense of responsibility and the opportunity to develop their own interpersonal skills and gain knowledge in cyber security – crucial skills valued by future employers.

Anti Bullying Ambassadors

Supported by HRH The Duke of Cambridge, The Diana Award Anti-Bullying Campaign Anti-Bullying - From The Diana Award - The Diana Award (diana-award.org.uk) engages young people, parents and teachers to change the attitudes, behaviour and culture of bullying by building skills and confidence to address different situations, both online and offline. Tomorrow’s Teachers

I’ve put the info here below but looking ahead,  I’d like to launch it with a newsletter story etc once it gets going.

The Tomorrow’s Teacher’s scheme by TES aims to empower and enable schools to recognise potential teachers of the future and create a pathway so that those students gain relevant skills, knowledge and experience to then go on to choose a career in the vocation.

A cohort of Year 12 students will complete this national programme over the coming months which is aimed at identifying and developing young people who could go into the teaching profession and inspire the next generation of learners.

The course is divided into 12 modules, each focusing on a different aspect of the teaching profession which allows students to think about and experience a classroom situation from an alternative perspective for the first time. Throughout the course they will work through a number of modules allowing them to discover what it would be like to take charge of a class, consider what teachers do day-to-day and giving them the opportunity to explore what it entails to make their future career goals a reality.
