Reporting Student Absences

If a student is absent the parent or carer must contact the school absence line on 0151 428 6421 Option 2 before 8.30am on each day of absence or send a message via the My Child at School App (MCAS).

Please note that this can be done in the early morning if preferred and does not have to wait for the school office to open unless you need to ask for advice.

The message must provide a reason for the absence. This is to ensure that the correct Attendance Code is recorded.

If a student is absent and no reason is provided the parent or carer will be sent a message via the MCAS App and will receive a call from the Attendance First Responder. This may be followed up by the student’s Progress Leader and/ or another member of the Attendance Team.

If it has not been possible to reach a parent or carer and no reason has been  provided for absence a letter will be sent to the student’s home address. A home visit may also be made by a member of the school’s Attendance Team or Pastoral Team.

There are some occasions when a call will be made to the parent or carer while the school office are still processing the messages received in the morning. This sometimes happens due to the volume of messages received each day in the school office. Our Attendance Team have been trained to make Attendance calls at the earliest possible opportunity for safeguarding reasons to ensure that each student on roll is accounted for every morning. If this happens please be assured that your message will still be accessed and recorded on the student’s record. Thank you for your patience.
