Entry Criteria

How to Choose subjects

If you have a particular university course in mind it may be worth using the UCAS website to check course entry requirements.

To help you choose Post-16 courses, The Russell Group of Universities have published a useful guide called Informed Choices.

When you’re thinking about your university course, it’s useful to consider the following points:

  • What subjects do you enjoy? What subjects are you good at?
  • You need to have an understanding of the subjects and what they will entail at university. For example, some courses will have a higher coursework content than others; some courses might complete practical assessments etc. You need to check each subject’s specific entry criteria before you apply. It is essential that you meet this otherwise you could be wasting a choice on your UCAS application.
  • Take some time to talk to your subject teachers and discuss their experiences of higher education and your potential suitability for your intended course of study
  • Understand what is involved in the study of the subjects in terms of the topics to be covered, amount of coursework to be completed, meeting deadlines etc.

In addition to your selected subjects, we also offer the Extended Project Qualification. You can find out more about that here (link to EPQ doc  / info ) For more information about the EPQ, please speak to Mrs Jones, Mr Magor or Miss Kelly.

Listed below are some Talking Heads from current students and ‘Why should we study…?’ videos. Take some time to scroll through. Listen to what our current students have to say, and for any further advice, please speak to the relevant Curriculum Leader.
